In late April, North America’s 50 Best Bars of 2025 were named and celebrated, with 50 bars across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Caribbean showcased for first-class cocktails and service.
These top bars were selected based on votes by 270 anonymous bar industry experts, including bartenders, bar owners, drinks media and well-traveled cocktail connoisseurs from across North America.

Mirate, Los Angeles (No. 12) © 50 Best
This year’s best bar in North America can be found in the Colonia Juárez district in Mexico City, Mexico. Handshake Speakeasy occupies a former shoe factory, now transformed with black-and-gold accents and Prohibition vibes echoing The Great Gatsby. With seating for just 32 guests in 90-minute sittings, this intimate bar serves up drinks like Once Upon a Time in Oaxaca, featuring Siete Misterios Doba-Yej Mezcal, eight-hour-infused mint and absinthe. Mexi-Thai, meanwhile, combines tequila with makrut lime, coconut basil oil and tomato.

Superbueno © 50 Best
New York City’s Superbueno takes the second spot thanks to its cocktail program blending flavors of Mexico with an influence of New York City’s bar scene. Accompanied by swinging globe lights, concoctions include Vodka y Soda, made with clarified guava, chili emulsion and triple sec, as well as Mole Negroni, where mezcal is fat-washed in the rich Mexican sauce and paired with an amari blend and xocolatl bitters. Even its beers come with a choice of house-made tajin or wormsalt.

Tlecān © 50 Best
Another Mexico City establishment rounds out the top three: Tlecān, meaning “place of fire” in Náhuatl, pays homage to Prehispanic culture through both its drinks and décor. The Disc of Death clay sculpture, for instance, hangs over the bar. Customers will leave with a new understanding of mezcal via a range of craft drinks.
Other winning bars this year include:
- Jewel of the South, New Orleans, Louisiana (No. 4)
- Sip & Guzzle, New York City, New York (No. 5)
- Overstory, New York City, New York (No. 6)
- Bar Pompette, Toronto, Canada (No. 7)
- El Gallo Altanero, Guadalajara, Mexico (No. 8)
- Licorería Limantour, Mexico City, Mexico (No. 9)
- Kumiko, Chicago, Illinois (No. 10)
