Daily

In a city where new hotels, restaurants and experiences emerge seemingly every day, it’s expected to feel overwhelmed when deciding where to dine. London consistently sees delicious and top-notch restaurants appear, but how can one possibly keep track of all the new and updated restaurants?

To make deciding easier, here are four new and updated eateries gracing this international city this year:

Carlotta

Opening this May, this intimate trattoria invites guests to indulge in Neapolitan and Sicilian classics with a retro, Italian-American twist. Situated within Marylebone Village, this Big Mamma establishment will include dishes like penne alla vodka with Cornish crab, lamb arrosticini skewers, tempura shrimp cocktail and rosé veal tartare. An extended whiskey list complements the dishes. The space features a 1980s-style, blue-velvet drinking den, complete with a ruby red terrace, as well as a long, skylit dining room and Venetian marble bar for pre-dinner cocktails.

The Wigmore

Within one of London’s most beloved luxury hotels lies The Wigmore, a pub serving signature food and drinks. The Langham, London’s iconic pub now welcomes guests with a new cocktail menu in time for spring and summer. The new cocktail list, created by Bodhan Burkovetskyi, sees 11 new cocktails join an already stellar list of drinks. Highlights include the Earl Grey Negroni (Tanqueray Gin, Italicus Aperitivo, dry vermouth and bergamot aroma), Sassy Mango (tequila-based drink) and the Pineapple Express Martini. The new menu also sees five new gin and tonic concoctions, each offering a unique twist on the classic cocktail. Several new dishes join the food menu alongside the drinks list, with savory plates like pork rillette, baba ganoush and spiced duck pastilla ready to wow patrons.

Francos

Franco’s

Located on Jermyn Street is Franco’s Italian Restaurant, a popular dining institution drawing guests far and wide since 1945. Now, the restaurant presents its newly redecorated private dining room. The space, also used as part of the restaurant when not hired for a private event, accommodates up to 16 in one room, up to 32 at one long table or up to 50 at five tables of 10 guests. The redecorated space sees bespoke, 17th-century scenic wall coverings throughout, all depicting the Italian countryside. Mirrored antique paneling and Art Deco brass fixtures further enhance and lighten the space. One of the new features includes a walk-in wine storage room, an addition sure to be a hit with diners.

Double Standard

Another London hotel sees exciting changes on its culinary and drink side. The Standard, London’s ground floor and bar launches a brand-new Sunday Brunch menu with a D.I.Y. Bloody Mary station. Double Standard welcomes spring with the new addition, in which British brunch favorites are combined with hearty American classics. These dishes are paired with bottomless prosecco or a D.I.Y. Bloody Mary. Available every Sunday, 12–4 p.m., the new D.I.Y. Bloody Mary station allows guests to choose between a classic vodka, Red Snapper gin, Bloody Maria Mezcal or a Virgin Maria. Then, guests can add a mix of five garnishes, including classic gherkins; cherry tomatoes; bacon and celery; seafood like prawns, pickled anchovies and lobster claws; cheddar and stilton cheese; or an extra kick with a Double Standard hot sauce float.

Now’s the Time to See Giza, the Nile and Beyond

All archaeology-obsessed eyes turned hopefully toward Egypt earlier this year when the highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum outside Cairo finally began welcoming visitors after construction delays, funding roadblocks and political upheaval in the region (among other factors) conspired to keep things delayed for many long years. The museum’s cherry on the top is slated to open this summer, with the July opening of the museum’s 20-plus-years-in-the-making Tutankhamen galleries and accompanying cache of some 5,000 artifacts and treasures from the boy king’s tomb.
