The United Nations deemed 2022 the International Year of Glass and New York offers some of the most beautiful and unique uses of glass found in the world. All over the state, guests celebrate the Year of Glass with these one-of-a-kind experiences for all ages.

In 1951, the Corning Museum of Glass was established in the Finger Lakes. A popular exhibit at the museum is the Studio, which offers Make Your Own Glass sessions, perfect for all ages to create their own glass art and watch glass demonstrations. The museum draws about 500,000 visitors from all around the world each year and boasts one of the most comprehensive and vast glass art collections in the world.
Kaleidoshow: World’s Largest Kaleidoscope
Located in the Catskills, travelers can step inside a 60-foot-tall former grain silo, now transformed into the world’s largest kaleidoscope. In fact, the former silo earned its certification from the Guinness Book of World Records. The Kaleidoshow displays colorful changing patterns and designs through tapered mirrors with a stunning visual and audio experience. Guests staying at Emerson Resort and Spa get to enjoy the show for free. Non-guests can purchase tickets for $5.
The one-of-a-kind carousel full of a variety of glass fish can be found at The Battery on the south end of Manhattan. SeaGlass Carousel lacks the center pole of a traditional carousel; instead, the four turntables are driven by electric motors sitting beneath the floor. Color-changing LED light fixtures illuminate the carousel. Each fish featured is designed to resemble the bioluminescence found deep in the ocean.
The Edge offers unique views of New York City. Guests can catch a glimpse through the glass walls to see all the way from Central Park to the Statue of Liberty and more. Near the eastern point, guests can check out the glass floor from 100 floors up. Walking on the glass floor allows for a unique perspective of the city streets below.
