Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas introduced the Maldives’ first certified wine education program available to guests. The Wine and Spirit Education Trust program allows guests to expand their wine knowledge. Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas is the first resort in Asia certified to offer this program.
“The launch of this program is a fitting addition to the wine appreciation culture at our resort. Over the years, we have amassed a collection worth over USD $2 million, consisting of over 450 labels and vintage treasures,” said Ross Sanders, general manager, Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas.
The program is led by the resort’s WSET-certified educator. Participants take the WSET Level 1 coursework, which includes learning about stages of grape growing, types and styles of wine, key characteristics of wine and proper wine storage and service. No prior wine knowledge is required.
Guests participate in three two-hour tasting sessions and a final theory exam. The tastings take place at the property’s overwater bar, lagoon and underwater restaurant and wine cellar. Upon successful completion, participants receive an official certificate and lapel pin from WSET.
To participate in the program, a four-night stay is required. There is a minimum of two guests per session. The program costs $900 per couple.
