Princess Cruises sold two vessels, Sun Princess and Sea Princess, in accordance with parent company Carnival Corporation’s plan to remove less efficient ships from its fleet. The buyers were not disclosed in the announcement.
“Sun Princess and Sea Princess contributed to significant growth in Australian cruising,” said Jan Swartz, president, Princess Cruises. “Both ships defined the premium cruise experience with Australians and New Zealanders spending close to 14 million nights aboard these ships. While it is never easy to say goodbye to any ship in our fleet, this will allow us to deploy newer ships enhancing our offerings for Australia cruisers and focus on bringing into service exciting newbuilds like the upcoming delivery of Enchanted Princess.”
Sun Princess debuted in the Caribbean in 1995 as the first Sun Class ship. The 2,000-guest ship was once one of the largest in the world and sailed in the Panama Canal, Alaska and more before calling Australia its home port in 2007. The Sun Princess was also the first foreign-flagged cruise ship offering sailings specifically designed for the Japanese in 2013.
Sea Princess, another 2,000-guest vessel, became known as a world cruise ship after completing six full-world cruises, and traveling an equivalent of 35 times around the world.
With the two vessels sold, Princess Cruises will cancel booked itineraries, including all Sun Princess sailings Dec. 28, 2020–Aug. 14, 2021, and all Sea Princess sailings Dec. 23, 2020–Nov. 9, 2021. Booked guests and travel advisors will be notified about the cancellations, and alerted on how to re-book future cruises or receive a full refund.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
