Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group announced plans to take over an existing hotel in Switzerland. The property is undergoing extensive renovations in preparation to open at the end of next year as Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern. The property was previously Hotel Palace Luzern, on the shores of Lake Lucerne and in the heart of the city; it originally opened in 1906.

A multimillion-dollar renovation will restyle all guestrooms and suites, public areas, restaurants, bars and the outdoor grounds. Once Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern opens, it will boast nearly 150 guestrooms and suites, a restaurant and bar, meeting and social facilities, a spa and a fitness center.

From the hotel, guests to the region enjoy amazing views of the lake and mountains beyond, as well as easy access to nearby attractions, such as Chapel Bridge, a famous Swiss landmark and one of the oldest wooden bridges in Europe.

“We look forward to opening a new hotel in Switzerland, which will complement our growing portfolio in Europe, including our other Swiss hotel in Geneva. Lake Lucerne has long been a popular destination for luxury travelers and it will now be home to one of Switzerland’s most exclusive properties, providing guests with Mandarin Oriental’s exemplary service for which the brand is renowned,” said James Riley, CEO, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
