Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport confirmed plans with American Airlines to build a sixth terminal building. It should open as soon as 2025.
The plan carries a $3–3.5 billion price tag and involves the construction of the new Terminal F and improvements to the existing Terminal C. The new terminal will be situated south of Terminal D and will have up to 24 gates.
The plan is currently in the design stage, with several layouts under consideration. American Airlines says the new Terminal F will “accommodate a changing aviation industry” by incorporating new technologies to assist passenger movement, maintain airline cost efficiency and improve operational performance.
The project’s upgrade of Terminal C, opened in 1974, will bring it in line with Terminals A, B and E, renovated in 2018 with redesigned check-in areas, larger security checkpoints, expanded concessions spaces, as well as improved lighting and flooring.
Commenting on the new project, Sean Donohue, CEO, DFW Airport, said, “Today’s announcement sets the stage for DFW Airport’s next 50 years. The new Terminal F and the expansion that could follow will provide the region with the growth it needs to compete with international business centers.”
