EUclaim, the flight compensation company, released data showing the airlines with the highest number of compensation claims in 2016. The list shows Easyjet had the highest number of inquiries, with 15,499 claims. Ryanair placed second with 9,887 inquiries, a 60 percent jump over 2015.
British Airways was third with 8,117 claims, while Thomas Cook Airlines ranked fourth with 7,382 claims. Thomson Airways followed in fifth position with 5,500 claims.
Tjitze Noorderhaven, UK manager, EUclaim, said many complaints were a result of weather-related delays and flight cancelations.
The data also showed Norwich Airport had the highest number of flight cancelations last year. And at London Heathrow, delays and cancelations rose by 30 percent; London Gatwick had a 42 percent rise over
