NYC Welcomes Marmara

Daily / Feature

Marmara Collection is coming to the Big Apple with the opening of its flagship property, Marmara Park Avenue, in August. Located on 32nd Street between Park and Lexington Avenues, the property includes custom-designed and individually produced items from artisans across New York City’s five boroughs. Local artist/designer Joe Ginsberg created an environment where guests feel like they’re coming home. In addition to the bespoke pieces found throughout the hotel, other items were handpicked from design-forward purveyors; nothing was sourced from hotel industry suppliers.

A hallmark of the property will be its service, a combination of European gentility and discreet New York efficiency. In-room iPad Airs will connect to a 24/7 virtual concierge. The 128 guestrooms will be a mix of suites, guestrooms and penthouse suites, featuring apartment-style configurations and fully equipped kitchens. Soaring ceilings allow for plenty of natural light, and 40 rooms offer private terraces.

Nearly 1,4000 square feet of event space can be divided into two rooms or rented as one spacious venue. The area is outfitted with state-of-the-art technology. The Marmara Park Avenue’s Wellness Center includes a lap pool, cleansing steam bath and a comprehensive fitness center.

The Marmara Collection, founded in 1978 in Istanbul, boasts a collection of seven properties throughout Turkey.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
