Since WOW Air emerged on the travel scene, Americans have had easy and cheap access to Europe via the airline’s home country of Iceland. It seems like new routes are sprouting every few months as WOW continues to connect the two continents at a rapid rate. The latest four American cities to welcome the purple airline to their departure gates are Cincinnati (CVG), Cleveland (CLE), St. Louis (STL) and Detroit (DTW).
By Memorial Day 2018, flights will depart from these four cities to Reykjavik (RKV), with the option to continue the journey to more than 20 mainland European destinations like Barcelona (BCN), Paris (CDG) and Amsterdam (AMS).
This will be the first trans-Atlantic flight to depart Cleveland Hopkins International Airport since 2009; however, the route also will be available on WOW’s major competitor, Icelandair, which also plans to launch service to Reykjavik in 2018.
WOW will face fierce competition with Delta Air Lines in Detroit and American Airlines in St. Louis, but what continues to set this carrier apart are its low fares and no-frills flying experiences for travelers who wouldn’t normally have flown this route.
