World passport rankings have been released by 2ndPassports.com.

The top winner is the German passport, which allows holders access to 177 countries in North America, South America, Southeast Asia, Southern Africa, Western Europe and more, with no visa required. Not far behind is the Swedish passport, with access to 176 countries. In comparison, U.S. passports allow for access to 174 countries, the same as Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Countries with underperforming passports include Russia, India, China and Saudi Arabia, but not even they compare to those in the bottom rankings, namely Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Somalia, which all allow access to 30 or fewer countries.

European Union passports clearly outranked non-European Union passports, as 25 of the 28 included countries provide passports allowing travel to 160 or more countries. The remaining three countries that do not are Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia. Non-European Union passports performing nearly as well include those of the United States, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, New Zealand and Australia.
