A new WalletHub study uncovered the best cities in the United States to spend Halloween. The study looked at factors such as number of trick-or-treaters, number of trick-or-treat stops, crime rates, Halloween party ticket costs, costume stores per capita, candy stores per capita and Halloween weather forecasts.

The study says Americans are projected to spend $8.8 billion on Halloween this year, with $3.2 billion toward costumes and $2.6 billion to candy. Annual revenue from ticket sales for haunted attractions is approximately $300 million, with 80 percent of the proceeds benefitting charities.

The study found the top five Halloween destinations in the United States are, in descending order, New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, San Diego and Las Vegas. At the bottom of the rankings, out of all 100 cities studied, Birmingham, Memphis, Baton Rouge, Detroit and Albuquerque scored the worst.

New York City, Las Vegas, Orlando, New Orleans and Atlanta all tied for most costume stores per capita, while New York City, San Francisco and Honolulu tied for most candy and chocolate stores per capita. The best Halloween weather is predicted for Philadelphia, Tucson and Portland, Oregon.
