A study published in Consumer Affairs ranks Virgin America and Delta Air Lines top two for healthy airline food. Air Canada tied with Delta for second place.

The Annual Food Investigation Survey bases rankings on criteria including health and calorie levels of meals, snack boxes and individual snacks, regular improvements of healthy offerings, menu innovation and availability of nutritional information.

Virgin received a score of 4.25 out of 5 and an “excellent” grade for providing quality nutritional information and for number of calories in all food, with an average calorie count of 337.

Delta received a 4 out of 5 and also received an “excellent” grade for providing nutritional information. While the average number of calories in Delta meals is higher than Virgin’s, the number was far lower than the average at 527 calories.

Delta recently introduced signature dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner from New York’s Maialino Restaurant on select routes in Delta One. The new menu is in keeping with authentic rustic Italian cuisine by Chef Jason Pfeifer.
