In 2013, the University of Alabama at Birmingham received six large screen prints from the estate of Andy Warhol, including Electric Chair and Vote McGovern. From Jan. 9–Feb. 28, they’ll be joined by three other screen prints and 90 photographic prints pulled from the museum’s own collection. These and other works on loan from private collectors, the Andy Warhol Museum, Booth Western Art Museum and Birmingham Museum of Art will be on display in Warhol: Fabricated, an exhibition hosted by the University of Alabama’ College of Arts and Sciences’ Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts.

John Fields, MFA, curates the exhibit, showcasing well-known works including Marilyn, Mick Jagger, Red Lenin and Sitting Bull, along with Warhol wallpapers, silver gel prints and never-before displayed prints. Also included: a photographic portrait of the artist by acclaimed documentary photographer Bob Adelman, recently named photography advisor to the Library of Congress. Adleman is known for his visual documentation of the Civil Rights movement and the New York art scene during the 1960s. An evening reception is planned for Jan. 9 from 6–8 p.m. at AEIVA.
