United Airlines took delivery of its first Boeing 787-10 aircraft last week. It is the first North American airline to receive the aircraft, as well as the first airline in the world to boast the entire family of 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft in its fleet.

The 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft is 18 feet longer than the 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft and carries more passengers and cargo, while using 20 percent less fuel. The aircraft offers 44 United Polaris business-class seats, 21 United Premium Plus seats, 54 economy-plus seats and 199 economy seats.

The aircraft is the first delivered with United’s Polaris business-class and Premium Plus seats already installed.

New enhancements include lighting patterns to mimic sunrise and sunset colors, combating jet lag. New entertainment systems feature split screen capabilities to view entertainment and flight maps simultaneously; a relax mode with tailored videos and playlists; accessibility features for those with vision, hearing and mobility issues; and entertainment recommendations based on flight time and passenger behavior.

The aircraft enters service Jan. 7, 2019, serving United’s Los Angeles (LAX) and Newark (EWR) hubs.
