Throughout the pandemic United Airlines took an industry-leading approach to create a healthy, safe environment and implemented different measures to keep customers and employees safe.
With travel picking up around the world, United Airlines and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention teamed to create a program to collect customer contact information for all international and domestic flights.
“Contact tracing is a fundamental component of the nation’s public health response strategy for controlling the spread of communicable diseases of public health concern,” said Dr. Robert R. Redfield, director, CDC. “Collection of contact information from air travelers will greatly improve the timeliness and completeness of information for COVID-19 public health follow-up and contact tracing.”
If passengers are interested in taking part of the program, they will be prompted to provide contact information, including an email address, phone number and a place-of-stay address at their destination during the check-in process.
The new program started this week and will roll out in phases with the voluntary collection of information for all international arrivals. In the following weeks, it will be phased into the domestic and international outbound departures.
Customers interested in helping can opt in and participate using United’s mobile app, at united.com or at the airport.
