United Airlines just introduced a new tool to make connecting flights easier. ConnectionSaver automatically identifies departing flights available for hold for connecting customers, while simultaneously allowing those already aboard the departing flight to make it to their destination on time. ConnectionSaver sends travelers text messages with directions to connecting flight gates and information on how long the walk between gates should take.

“Through improved technology and our dedication to running a reliable operation, customers with tight connections are making their flights. With summer travel picking up, as many as 150,000 customers will make connections on United flights every day and our goal is to provide our employees and these customers with the most up-to-date information to make connecting as stress-free as possible,” said Toby Enqvist, chief customer officer, United. “ConnectionSaver only works if it allows us to care for as many customers as possible — without inconveniencing others — and that’s exactly what this technology has shown it can do. We’re determined to capitalize on as many opportunities as possible to better serve and care for our customers and that’s part of what sets United apart from our competitors.”

The technology rolled out at Denver International Airport in February and then expanded to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. It assisted more than 14,400 customers on connecting flights since the roll out. The technology expands to all United hubs over the next few months and all future airports added to United’s roster of destinations.

New York City’s Penn Station to Undergo Massive Redevelopment

There are few commuters, residents and tourists who have visited New York City and never included Pennsylvania Station in their travel plans. The city’s Penn Station opened in 1910 as a Beaux-Arts masterpiece designed by McKim, Mead & White, modeled after the Roman Baths of Caracalla from the third century A.D. Of course, there was no resemblance.
