Following nearly $600 million in renovations to its LAX terminal, United Airlines recently broke ground on a $352 million technical operations facility at the airport.
The new project marks nearly $1 billion in investments United Airlines is bringing to the airport. United estimates the construction process will create more than 800 jobs.
United’s current project, the Technical Operations Center, will give the airline a finer level of control over its fleet at LAX. The project includes two connected buildings. The first building will allow for ground equipment, facility maintenance and a line maintenance hanger, which will also include an engine support shop for United’s Dreamliners. The new facility integrates two current facilities at the airport that are 1.5 miles apart.
“Our continued investments emphasize our commitment to our customers in Los Angeles as California’s global airline. This modern, world-class facility will create more than 800 jobs in L.A. during the construction process, and will be home to more than 500 United employees once it is completed,” said Greg Hart, COO, United.
United is updating its maintenance facilities at other airports, including IAH and ORD.
