In the wake of the most recent mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., and the political and social discourse that followed, many companies and brands cut ties with the National Rifle Association.
Travel companies and hotel brands jumped on the movement by eliminating the discount programs for NRA members they once provided. There has been public outcry for these brands to #boycottNRA or for consumers to boycott the companies.
The NRA opposes efforts to raise the age to buy weapons like the AR-15 used in the Parkland shooting from 18 to 21. The public and companies denouncing the NRA are demonstrating their disapproval with economic force.
The current list of travel companies cutting ties with the NRA include Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Hertz, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, National Alamo, Wyndham and Best Western. Many of these companies made public statements and tweets denouncing the association, asking to be removed from the NRA’s website in return.
More companies are expected to follow suit, but there are a number who voiced support of the NRA. HotelPlanner, a hotel deals booking service, indicated it would honor its commitment to the NRA by upholding its discount.
