Travelers between Malaysia’s metropolis of Kuala Lumpur and the thriving city-state of Singapore will soon be able to travel at top speeds between the neighboring cities in just 90 minutes.
Plans for a high-speed train to link these two cities in Southeast Asia are currently underway, with construction to begin by 2018. Traveling at 186 mph (300 kilometers per hour), the majority of the train’s track will be in Malaysia, thus Malaysia will be responsible for funding a larger portion of the $12 billion project.
Scheduled to complete construction in 2025, the 90-minute high-speed rail will be open for passenger use by 2026. A flight between the two cities take about an hour, but that does not include additional time spent checking in, going through security and waiting for bags. By comparison, the existing train service transports guests in 11 hours, and travel by car takes approximately five hours.
