The Islands of Tahiti are among the most beautiful and sought-after vacation destinations in the world. The endless images of overwater bungalows with Bora Bora’s majestic peak towering over waters of every shade of blue have an intrinsic pull. But with 118 islands and atolls to explore, there is so much more to this spectacular region of the Pacific.
Aboard a private yacht charter with companies such as The Moorings, The Islands of Tahiti are within reach, allowing visitors to explore a new stunning motu and a new island seemingly each day. Here is a seven-day itinerary aboard a yacht charter in The Islands of Tahiti:
Day 1
Set sail from the marina in Uturoa, on the island of Raiatea, and enjoy a short jaunt to Apu Bay. On the northern tip of Raiatea, with the mountains of Raiatea and Taha’a in full view; the crystal-clear, sheltered waters of Apu Bay are an irresistible beginning to any yachting escape.
Day 2
Wake up with the sunrise and set sail for the distant peak of Bora Bora. Here, Raititi Point beckons with its many hotels and restaurants and spectacular scenery, with several world-class beaches and diving excursions available.
Day 3
A leisurely sail along the coastline of Bora Bora will bring sailors to Bora Bora Yacht Club. A must-stop on any visit to The Islands of Tahiti, this celebrated venue has long welcomed intrepid travelers from all over the world eager to share their tales.

Day 4
Bid adieu to Bora Bora and sail east to the nearby island and hidden gem of Taha’a. This mountainous island known for its many vanilla plantations and laid-back vibes is overshadowed by its island neighbor in name only. Drop anchor in Ha’amene Bay, the largest protected body of water on the island; enjoy dinner; and soak in the lush green views from nearby Hibiscus Restaurant.
Day 5
Sail southward, back to the island of Raiatea, and settle in Fa’aroa Bay on the island’s eastern coast. This long, fjord-like bay offers lush green views like many other harbors in this region of the world, but holds the unique distinction of offering the only river trip in The Islands of Tahiti. Take this opportunity for a dinghy ride up Aopomau River, enjoying the jungle views, cultivated plantations and towering mountain views along the way.
Day 6
Another hop south along the eastern coast of Raiatea takes you to Opoa, home to the incredible archeological site of Taputapuatea Marae. This complex of stone structures was once considered the central temple and religious center of The Islands of Tahiti. Officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2017, this site is an incredibly well-preserved example of the architecture and ancient culture of the Polynesians.

Day 7
The saddest day of all, return to Uturoa and begin the long trek home, reveling in the majesty of the islands you will forever hold dear to your heart.

When the two of us entered The Spa at Four Seasons Tamarindo, past the backlit boutique items and local artisan-painted wood carvings, the place wrapped us in a feeling of tranquility. Its stone walls, earth tones, woven wall hangings and furniture made of natural materials reminded us we are part of nature’s spectrum, the abundant windows showing native plants and trees outside.

Jul 24, 2024Althoff Grand Hotel Schloss Bensberg Review
After a long drive from our previous destination, it was a relief to see Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg in our view. When we pulled into the hotel court, I felt like we were pulling up to a royal palace. Considering the hotel was originally built as a castle for Prince Elector Johann Wilhelm II of Duesseldorf and his wife, Maria-Luisa of the Medici family, my thought wasn’t that far off.
