Sniff out the coveted truffles that grow in Provence, France in the company of professional truffle hunters and hounds at Les Pastras Organic Provencal Farm in Cadenet, France. The Pepin family farm hosts both a summer (May 1–Sept. 30) and a winter (Nov. 15–March 15) season, with weekday tours at set times, and flexible weekend excursions. The Truffle Hunting Tour includes an exploration of the truffle plantation, a sampling of fresh truffle hors d’oeuvres, Champagne and a tasting of the farm’s own olive and truffle oils.
A minimum of two people is required for each tour. At their farm, the Pepins produce organic cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, black truffle oil and seasonal truffles. They also offer a tree adoption program that comes with a yearly shipment of olive oil or truffles. Besides discovering the secrets of truffle hunting and the training of truffle hounds, participants will learn how truffles are cultivated, plus how to spot the difference between truffle types and fakes. Along the way, hear fascinating tales of truffle intrigue — and even sabotage.
