Luxury travel network Virtuoso announced its Top 10 destinations for the upcoming fall and winter seasons, based upon luxury travel bookings by U.S. travelers. The data for the prediction is sourced from more than $40.7 billion in travel transactions.
The strong contenders are European destinations regardless of unrest and safety concerns. The continent took six of the 10 spots, with Italy as the No. 1 destination, followed by the United Kingdom, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany. The latter two are particularly popular for travelers booking river cruises and Christmas travel.
Other non-European destinations include South Africa, Mexico and Australia, with South Africa attracting adventure travelers looking for an active holiday.
Rounding out the list is China, drawing increasingly interested travelers with its history, culture and newer luxury options.
The full list is as follows, reflecting September–December booked travel.
- Italy
- United Kingdom
- France
- South Africa
- Spain
- Mexico
- Australia
- Netherlands
