With Wednesdays on the Green returned, my Wednesday evenings will be filled with live music. First up was Good Clean Fun.
Husband-and-wife team Mike and Traci lead an incredible band playing music from every decade. Performing in the New York tri-state area since 1997 and the Midwest since 2006, Good Clean Fun has earned many awards and accolades, including the Couple’s Choice Award for the last seven consecutive years.
Good Clean Fun doesn’t try to duplicate the original songs, nor do they put wild spins on them. They simply deliver a fun, energetic performance. The crowd, including folks of all ages, applauded after each song and gave a thunderous round of applause as the show ended.
The next Wednesday, I enjoyed classic country and real honkytonk from Diamondback. Female-fronted, they feature beautiful and strong harmonies with tight instrumentation.
Performinging in front of a similar crowd as the previous week, bur playing completely different music from Good Clean Fun, Diamondback had a similar positive crowd reaction. Good music is always enjoyable, no matter the genre.
In its 13th year, Wednesdays on the Green is presented by Skokie Chamber of Commerce and Skokie Public Library. Every Wednesday evening, musical acts perform a free concert at Village Green, the courtyard adjacent to the library.
Most Wednesday evenings I make the short walk to Village Green, making a quick stop on the way at Village Inn for a slice of pizza. If I am feeling lazy, I can sit on my balcony and still hear the music.
Running through August, Wednesdays on the Green features a lot of great bands, including Serendipity, one of my area favorites. That is one show I will definitely arrive early enough to get a front-row seat.
