Travel start-up Surf Air made a name for itself among frequent fliers with its offering of unlimited flights to members — a sort of Netflix for air travel. Surf Air is going to expand its offerings with European routes starting this October. The service will include routes to London, Zurich, Geneva, Paris, Cannes, Dublin and Ibiza; more are expected to be added later. The California-based company currently flies to 12 destinations with 90 flights a day — all destinations are in California, including Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco and Napa. To fly, you must first become a member. Rates include baggage and all related charges, and passengers can arrive just 15 minutes before departure as the planes fly out of private terminals. Surf Air claims it saves at least two hours of time, which is certainly part of the appeal. Though billed as the “Netflix of airlines,” the cost is significantly higher than a Netflix subscription; individual memberships are available from $1,950 per month. The planes are out of the ordinary, too. The fleet is made up of twin-engine executive jets with custom interiors and leather seats. Surf Air has been operating since 2011.
