A new study from Airlines Reporting Corporation ranked the top flight destinations for summer travelers. For the fourth year, Cancun is the top flight destination this season.
In descending order, the top destinations are Cancun, New York City, Orlando, London, Las Vegas, Punta Cana, Seattle, Honolulu, Los Angeles and Chicago. Results were based on round-trip air ticket sales with U.S. travel agencies and online agencies for travel Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Year over year, Las Vegas sees an 8 percent increase in summer arrivals, the highest year-over-year increase among the top 10 destinations. Los Angeles follows, with a 1.5 percent year-over-year increase in arrivals. Honolulu experiences a decrease this summer, with arrivals down 8 percent. Passenger volume to Seattle likewise dropped 6.4 percent. However, average passenger counts and airfares across the data remain flat.
“When we took a holistic look at the top 10 summer destinations in terms of passenger volume, we saw that the levels stayed steady and strong,” said Chuck Thackston, managing director, data science, Airlines Reporting Corporation. “And since the average cost of a ticket also remained effectively unchanged, vacationing in the United States and abroad continues to be a great deal.”
