A new survey shows most U.S. travelers let their stomachs be their guides when deciding where to go on their next trip — and where they would recommend traveling. About 62 percent of respondents said they would recommend a destination based only on its food, according to a study commissioned by gourmet food and gift company Harry & David. The survey also revealed 71 percent of Millennials said they would recommend a place on cuisine alone, showing younger Americans may value this aspect of travel more than older generations. The survey asked travelers to rank the top cities in the United States for food, and respondents chose New York as the best “foodie” city. Following the Big Apple were San Francisco, Chicago and Austin. Travelers are excited to try new foods while on the go, according to 82 percent of respondents, who said they are most excited about trying local food and restaurants out of any other activity on a trip. Fifty-eight percent said they seek out local favorites when dining out in order to try the local flavor.
