Star Alliance offers a new check-in process at Tokyo Narita International Airport. The revamped process allows travellers more control over their check-in process and cuts down on check-in time. Check-in area layouts changed and check-in desks are arranged by airlines rather than class of travel. Self-service check-in machines issue boarding passes and print baggage tags. Star Alliance is the first airline alliance to offer international travellers from Japan the option to print and use their own luggage tags. “Our initiative in Narita is part of our global strategy of reducing operational complexities and striving for standardisation with the aim of providing customers with a better travel experience. Initial statistics show that the majority of travellers are already making use of the new self-service option,” said Mark Schwab, CEO, Star Alliance. The 116 self-serve kiosks allow check-in for any member carrier. Passengers with carry-on luggage can proceed directly to their gate, while passengers with checked bags can self-tag and drop off at designated counters.
