The Israeli Opera Festival’s tradition of spectacular performances in stunning settings continues this season with a presentation of Verdi’s La Traviata at the foot of Mount Masada in the Judean Desert
Conducted by Daniel Oren and directed by Michal Znaniecki, with libretto Francesco Maria Piave, performances for the fourth annual Masada Opera Festival take place in an “opera village” June 12, 14, 16 and 17 on a stage along the shore of the Dead Sea. The custom-made village includes food stalls, entertainment and tiered seating for 7,500.
Performances include The Idan Raichel Project at Masada (June 13) and La Boheme (April–May 2014) at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center. Other highlights, held in Akko, include a weekend of Mozart (June 19–21), with a staging of Don Giovanni, performances of the Mozart Requiem and a Hebrew performance of the Magic Flute June 21. The weekend begins with a pre-performance Crusader’s Banquet on June 19.
