Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine, a former abbey located in Spain’s north central province of Castilla y León on the edge of the River Duero, has been selected as one of the 15 Best Building Conservation projects in Europe. Under the direction of noted architect Marco Serra, the 1,000-year old property — now part of the Novartis collection — has been carefully restored to its former beauty, and transformed into an opulent 5-star hotel highlighting original features such as the cloister, chapterhouse and refectory.
In addition to 22 stunning guestrooms and suites, the Romanesque-Baroque architecture of the estate houses The Refectorio restaurant with original stone walls, vaulted ceiling and 17th-century fresco of The Last Supper. Other dining options include La Vinoteca tapas bar, The Cloister Garden Mediterranean restaurant, and Sala Capituar Lounge and Bar. Guests can indulge in the estate’s own Abadia Retuerta wines, and enjoy day tours into Spain’s famed Ribera del Duero wine region.
