Southwest Airlines is introducing new employee-designed uniforms, galleys and seats. A group of 43 staff from all areas of the business met to design a new employee uniform, then tested by a separate group of 120 employees. The new look incorporates the Southwest signature blue and red hues and will appear June 2017. New seats will appear as the widest economy seat available on all Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The seats feature Southwest’s classic blue, an adjustable headrest and increased storage room. Made from eLeather, the seats are eco-friendly and produced using a process that recycles 95 percent of water used and converts waste into energy. Southwest employees designed a new galley to make service more efficient and effective. It eliminates service carts for a lighter flight weight, quicker service and the ability for passengers to move about more freely. Emergency equipment will move to the new galley area, creating more passenger overhead bin space, and an entirely new additional galley will come to the front of the cabin. The new galley system is currently operational on three aircraft, extending to 28 by 2017.
