Songtsam Hotels Resorts & Tours, a luxury boutique hotel collection located in the Tibet and Yunnan Provinces of China, recently opened its 18th and newest property, Songtsam Lodge Yading. Located in Yading Village in China’s Sichuan Province, the 40-room property is surrounded by three stunning mountains, specifically the Three Sacred Mountains of Daocheng, known for representing wisdom, compassion and courage among locals.

Songtsam Lodge Yading purposefully faces southeast, the direction of the rising sun, providing each room with a view of the region’s snow-capped mountain range, as well a “golden sunrise.” The resort is also made up of three separate houses, appropriately named Yangmaiyong, Xia’nodorjee and Xiannairi, after the Three Sacred Mountains.
Led by the founder of Songtsam, Mr. Baima Duoji, and Songtsam’s in-house engineering team, each house was designed to look and feel as traditional “Black Zang Houses,” where each is made of natural stone and adorned by wooden black doors and windows. This design style and choice of materials and colors reflects the Khamba tradition, typically found in Eastern Tibet.
The interior décor of the hotel evokes the area’s natural landscape and commemorates local culture and history of the region. In 1928, American explorer Joseph Rock crossed through Yading twice and made the village known to the world, inspiring British writer James Hilton who wrote Lost Horizon. Through the design’s colors of white, red, green and blue, as well as the selection of metallic materials, Lodge Yading depicts the integration of Chinese and foreign cultures.
“We look forward to welcoming well-traveled guests to stay at the new Songtsam Lodge Yading to experience all that Yading Village has to offer, especially with the upcoming openings of our new insite [sic] immersive culture and heritage centers,” said Mr. Duoji. “Whether guests decide to stay on property to relax, enjoy the amenities, and take in stunning views of the region, or take one of the outdoor tours, guests will feel proud knowing that these activities have helped provide new job opportunities to locals in Sichuan Province.”

For those looking to explore Yading Village’s culture during their visit, access is available by experienced travel guides who can take guests to unique places in the area, including a hike along the Three Sacred Mountains of Yading. Additionally, within each of Songtsam Lodge Yading’s three houses lives a local Sichuan family, providing guests the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of Yading Village.
Songtsam Lodge Yading offers authentic culinary experiences through its on-site dining options that include a Hot Pot restaurant, as well as Horizon, a restaurant specializing in rustic Tibetan cuisine using local ingredients found in the area, including tsampa (a Tibetan and Himalayan meal made of roasted flour), yogurt, locally made hot pot broth and yak meat. The resort also opened Lock Theme Cafe and Songtsam Kitchen, where guests enjoy local specialties.
Guests also have access to Songtsam SPA, a Himalayan spa brand under Songtsam Resorts where guests can indulge in wellness experiences offered only in this region of the world. Based on unique geographical conditions and the core of Tibetan spiritual culture, Songtsam’s SPA culture integrates healing elements from Tibet, India, Nepal and other Asian countries to offer the opportunity to embark on a journey of physical and mental exploration.
Songtsam Lodge Yading is now fully open for guests; reservations can be booked by contacting Songtsam Hotels Resorts & Tours via info@songtsam.com
