The latest addition to avant-garde luxury brand SO/ comes this November to the Maldives with SO/Maldives. Situated on a private island located a 15-minute speedboat ride from Malé Velana International Airport, the new property’s 80 individually designed villas bring peace, privacy and beauty to each guest.

Villas, ranging from the Lagoon Water Pool Villa Collection to the Three-Bedroom Ocean Water Pool Atelier, are located on their own slice of white-sand beach or on stilts above the lagoon, with décor and design drawing inspiration from both the surrounding region and the craftsmanship and theatricality of contemporary couture. The hotel welcomes guests via a spectacular, over-water pavilion with clean lines, cool neutral and natural woods juxtaposed against vibrant details, and a red-latticed staircase.

SO/Maldives brings a variety of dining outlets to guests, as well, with three distinct options each with its own unique, food-driven concept. Destination restaurant Hadaba features slow-cooked dishes and smoked delicacies using both local produce and the finest Levantine ingredients and spices. Guests can also enjoy dining at The Citronelle Club, serving spice-filled, family-style dishes inspired by Asian flavors. For a more laid-back atmosphere, Lazuli offers guests a hybrid beach bar and lounge environment.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.

New York City’s Penn Station to Undergo Massive Redevelopment

There are few commuters, residents and tourists who have visited New York City and never included Pennsylvania Station in their travel plans. The city’s Penn Station opened in 1910 as a Beaux-Arts masterpiece designed by McKim, Mead & White, modeled after the Roman Baths of Caracalla from the third century A.D. Of course, there was no resemblance.
