The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island announced the submersion of the resort’s new undersea residence, The Muraka, completed by the end of 2018.
The project is the result of a $15 million investment from the Conrad group, which constructed the world’s first undersea restaurant in 2005.
The Muraka will feature a split-level design, including an upper level with a twin-sized bedroom, bathroom, powder room, gym butler’s quarters, security quarters, living room, kitchen, bar and dining room and a sunset-facing observation deck.
The opposing wing will have all of the same features but with a sunrise-viewing platform.
The undersea level will include a king-sized bed and bath, and an ocean-facing bathtub. In total, the residence can fit up to nine guests.
While other resorts offer underwater bedrooms in manmade aquariums, Muraka will be different in that it sits on the actual ocean floor. It will be located in one of the best places to view whale sharks.
Rates for the room are estimated at $50,000 a night.
