Six Senses plans to introduce its first resort in Europe with the opening of a property in the Portuguese UNESCO World Heritage area of the Douro Valley in spring 2015. The 71-room property will offer serene isolation on 19 acres in the sun-kissed Valley situated approximately 20 miles from Vila Real Airport and 88 miles from Oporto International Airport. The resort’s all-day dining restaurant and specialty restaurant will serve Portuguese classics featuring fresh produce from the region and the resort’s own gardens. Guests can also learn about the wine varieties and styles of the oldest wine-producing region in the world at the property’s Wine Academy. The 24,000-square-foot Six Senses Spa will feature 10 treatment rooms and a menu of locally inspired therapies, some of which will be wine based. Additional spa facilities will include a heated indoor pool, a heated outdoor pool and bar and a fitness center. Six Senses Douro Valley will become the 12th property in the hotel company’s portfolio.
