Full-scale vaccination of air crew and airport workers began last week at the vaccination center for aviation at Changi Airport Terminal 4. The center can vaccinate 2,000 people per day, with plans to scale up. Approximately 7,000 people were slated to be vaccinated last week. Mr. Ong Ye Kung, minister for transport, joined frontline aviation workers for the vaccinations.

Singapore Airlines staff was among the frontline workers vaccinated. The airline launched an initiative to vaccinate all staff against COVID-19 as quickly as possible. In an internal memo to airline staff, SIA’s CEO Mr. Goh Choon Phong stated, “While this is voluntary for SIA Group staff, we strongly encourage all eligible colleagues to take the opportunity to be vaccinated at this early stage. Since our first call for volunteers went out last week, more than 5,200 staff have signed up and will get their vaccinations in the coming days. We hope more will do so in the coming days.”

Priority is given to the 20,000 frontline workers who come into contact with travelers from high-risk countries and their belongings, including pilots, cabin crew, airport and aircraft cleaners, security screeners, passenger service agents, baggage handlers and cargo handlers.
