Cape Town joined the destination list for active travel professionals Butterfield & Robinson’s cycling tours. Ranked in difficulty as recreational, daily routes on the South Africa Biking trip range 12–21 miles each day over predominantly gentle-rolling terrain (with occasional climbs and the option of mountain biking terrain in some areas).

Participants may also choose “fat-biking” through the sand dunes of Walker Bay Reserve, and mountain biking the Fynbos Trail that wends through the private reserves at Grootbos.

Highlights of the six-night, seven-day trip include private wine tastings and lunches; the option of a Master Class in the finer points of mountain biking in the Constantia wine region; cycling the trails and tracks through apple orchards, vineyards and oak forests; lunch at award-winning Creation Wine Farm; cycling the route to Hermanus between the Indian Ocean and towering mountains; and following paths to viewpoints along the Atlantic Coast and the Green Belts. Dates for the trip are in October, with prices beginning at $7,495 per person. Single supplements begin at $1,500. Hotels include Cape Grace in Cape Town, Grootbos Forest Lodge and the boutique Babylonstoren Farm Hotel in Simondium — an authentic, working fruit and wine farm.
