Illusionist Stefan Leyshon will join diners in Paris at the Hotel Plaza Athénée on the first Saturday of each month through December. Drawing his inspiration from the “Soirées Fantastiques” illusionist shows led by conjurer Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin in the late 1800s, the Secret Dinners series is a combination of magic show and interaction with diners that takes place on a 360-degree stage in the hotel’s Le Salon Haute Couture ballroom.

Ticket cost per person is €295 (about $312) for each four-hour event, which includes dinner, a cocktail and the show. Head chef Alain Ducasse and his culinary team are behind the tasting menu and themed cocktails, with atmosphere created by candlelight and classic acts from Robert-Houdin (and his protégé Georges Méliès, who carried on Robert-Houdin’s work into the 1900s) that include levitation, mind reading and disappearing objects. To keep the illusion of magic alive, dress code is strictly “elegant.”
