Harboring a secret love of ancient Japanese Samurai traditions? Indulge to your heart’s content on the new Samurai Cycling Tour offered by Ride & Seek Bicycle Adventures. The expedition takes place on Japan’s small, largely rural island of Shikoku. Known for its collection of 88 temples spiritually connected to Buddhist monk Kuka, the island’s landscape also includes terraced rice paddies, charming historic villages, deep green valleys and Japan’s second-highest mountain peak, Mt. Ishizuchi.

Part of the route follows the edge of the Shimanto River, and participants cycle at their own pace and comfort level. Break up cycling sessions with authentic Shikoku cuisine including handcrafted beers such as the island’s famed Asahi brand. Highlights include the pilgrim path of Buddhist saint Kobo Daishi, stays at Japanese-style inns and day-end dips in soothing, restorative hot mineral springs.
