Routehappy, a product differentiation platform for air travel, released its annual Global State of In-Flight Wi-Fi, which provides a worldwide look at in-flight WiFi.

According to the report, 2015 saw more airlines than ever add in-flight connectivity along with an increase in overall quality and speed of WiFi offered.

The report shows 60 airlines worldwide now offer WiFi, making it available in most regions of the globe. That means passengers have at least some chance of accessing WiFi on about 36 percent of available seat miles worldwide. On U.S.-based airlines that number jumps up to 78 percent. Non-U.S. airlines offer it on about 24 percent of their ASMs systemwide.

Three major U.S. airlines with the most WiFi available ASMs include Delta, with the most, followed by United and American. Virgin America is the only U.S. airline offering WiFi on nearly 100 percent of its flights, though its competitors are closing the gap.

Routehappy also reports in-flight connectivity is becoming faster and more reliable. With passengers demanding a similar Internet connectivity experience to their home network, airlines are responding in kind. Some airlines, like Delta, Aeromexico, Virgin Atlantic, and Lufthansa, are moving to high-speed broadband connections in the near future.
