ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: My husband and I arrived shortly ahead of check-in for our one-night stay at Conrad New York Downtown. We drove into the city and took advantage of the property’s valet service for a seamless start to our trip. The all-suite hotel’s massive atrium gives the lobby an airy atmosphere. We didn’t feel like we were in Manhattan, in a good way. Our friends were staying at the property as well, and we bumped into them at the check-in desk. They were traveling with their dog. This was a return visit for them, due in part to the Conrad’s excellent pet- friendly offerings.
GUEST QUARTERS: Our Hudson River View King Suite featured a spacious living area with sofa, plush chair, coffee table, television and desk which opened to a bar area, bathroom and then the bedroom. The space featured sliding doors, perfect for creating privacy between each section of the suite. A touch-panel light control clearly listed hall, bar, bedroom, etc., for easy operation.
A Nespresso machine, discreet Rocean water filtration system hidden within a cabinet, sink and for-purchase minibar were in the bar area. We received two complimentary, take-home, reusable water bottles in conjunction with the brand’s sustainability efforts.
The bathroom boasted Byredo products, a rainfall shower and large vanity. We enjoyed beautiful views of the Hudson River from the comfort of the bedroom. Blackout curtains blocked the view overnight. The king bed faced a large television flanked by a sleek closet. In general, the hotel was quiet, and we weren’t disturbed by any sounds from the city streets overnight. While our visit was sadly only one night, we felt completely at home during our stay.
SERVICES/AMENITIES: After we dropped off our bags to our respective rooms, we met our friends at the lobby-level Atrio restaurant and bar for light bites and drinks. Our group of four sat at the bar and split a bottle of wine from the sizeable wine list, hummus, cacio e pepe risotto tots and shrimp cocktail. We were in New York City to see a show, so we were on a bit of a schedule and had limited time to enjoy the property’s amenities, such as the fitness center.
Before making our way to the theater, we had pre-show cocktail reservations at open-air rooftop bar Leonessa. Located on the hotel’s 16th floor, Leonessa opened in April 2025. Inspired by Italian aperitivo culture, the space boasts bold-colored décor, lush greenery and even a working fountain. I ordered a spritz from the cocktail menu, and we all snacked on complimentary olives and cheese crackers. The weather was beautiful during our visit, but Leonessa features retractable windows for year-round use and inclement weather.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- Take advantage of Conrad Hotels & Resorts’ Conrad 1/3/5 program during your stay, with meaningful experiences offered as one-, three- or five-hour itineraries. Conrad New York Downtown offers a one-hour Italian cocktail and dinner experience at Leonessa and Atrio as part of the program.
- I highly recommend the hotel’s valet service if you plan to drive. If not, the property is located a short walk from several different subway lines.
- While there are plenty of restaurants and shops located in the quiet neighborhood near the hotel, many close early. Plan accordingly if you’re interested in late-night drinks or snacks. In-room dining closes at 10:30 p.m., and the Atrio bar closes at midnight.
