ON THE GROUND: No stranger to international travel, I was more than ready for my first trip to South Korea. Travelers to Seoul can choose from many carriers; I chose to experience the delightful business- class service aboard China Airlines, departing from New York JFK with a connection in Taipei on the way to Incheon Airport.
PRE-FLIGHT: As I boarded the plane, I realized my seat was the first one on the left side of the cabin. After putting my carry-on in the overhead bin, I settled into my spacious seat and went right into checking out the amenities. As I looked through all the compartments and familiarized myself with the different seating adjustments, flight attendants came by to offer a refreshing welcome drink of guava juice.
IN-FLIGHT: Following a smooth takeoff, flight crew distributed food and beverage menus. China Airlines allows passengers to pre-select their meals while checking in for their flight, and I took full advantage of that option. It was a thoughtful touch when flight attendants still checked in with me regarding my selection to see if I wanted to change my mind. I had a mix of breakfast for dinner with an omelet, assorted pastries, fruit cup and, surprisingly, delicious bow tie pasta with red sauce. I’m never particularly hungry while flying, but I did appreciate the variety of choices.
After dinner I took the opportunity to change into more comfortable clothes and relax. The Moschino amenity bag had everything I could’ve wanted, and some unexpected items. The Moraccanoil hair treatment was a lifesaver in taming my hair, and I still use the China Airlines-branded hairbrush with a mini mirror. I also made full use of the lip balm and lotion before pulling on my eye mask and fully reclining my seat.
I slept amazingly on my flight, probably due to our departure after midnight, but I genuinely felt so refreshed when I woke for the second meal. I opted for steak and potatoes for my main course, served with corn soup and shrimp salad. Shortly after, I changed back into my airport attire before our smooth descent.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- Book China Airlines for the amenities alone!
- Flight attendants provide top-tier service. On my journey home, I mentioned feeling a little under the weather and was
provided with non-stop hot tea refills and extra blankets.

In the Hamptons each September, the hottest ticket in town is not a “Billionaire Lane” benefit gala or a White Party hosted by the summer’s celebrity du jour, but a $600 million collection of rare, classic and modern supercars gingerly parked on the pristine fairways of The Bridge Golf Club, owned by billionaire Bob Rubin.
