InterContinental Hotels and Resorts teamed with London-based Alexander Hall to create an elaborate art installation celebrating the brand’s 200 properties, including the upcoming InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland.
The installation is made of 200 hand-painted Champagne bottles. Each bottle is unique and influenced by a specific property in the InterContinental catalogue. The installation will be available to view for a limited time and it will travel to a number of properties around the world.
“When I first started painting champagne bottles I just wanted it to make people feel something positive. Champagne for me means happiness, joy, celebration and the idea of bringing people together. That’s why I decided to paint on champagne bottles to celebrate the 200 InterContinental hotels. I wanted the bottles to reflect each InterContinental hotel’s unique personality, design and location, as well as the legacy and pioneering spirit of the founder, Juan Trippe. It’s been an honour to be asked to do this project and I hope that when I’m 80, I will be asked to celebrate 400 InterContinental hotels around the world,” Hall said.
The upcoming InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland is located in a former quarry. It is 18 storeys, with only two floors aboveground and 16 below.
