Red Planet Hotels and 4Ocean removed more than 300 kilograms of trash from Manila Bay in their first effort since publically announcing the partnership in November.

In addition to working directly with the environmental group, Red Planet Hotels is the first hotel chain to support 4Ocean’s “Buy A Bracelet – Pull a Pound” initiative, where hotels sell bracelets to support waterway cleaning efforts. To this point, the program has resulted in the removal of more than 1 million kilograms of trash from rivers and oceans in the past two years.

“As the number of our hotels grow, we will do more to support 4Ocean’s noble mission, not only by selling their campaign bracelets at our front desks but also through cleaning initiatives such as this,” said Tim Hansing, CEO, Red Planet Hotels.

In addition to supporting the bracelet initiative, Red Planet is working to reduce the amount of plastic waste and energy usage in its hotels while raising local awareness for the issues it raises.

“We are so proud that over 100 Red Planet employees from our 9 Metro Manila hotels volunteered their free time for the clean-up event. Our beautiful Philippines has a well-deserved reputation for its natural heritage, yet the build up of trash along Manila Bay demonstrates that we all need to do more to change mindsets,” said Sahlee Zaldivia, Country Head, Red Planet Philippines.
