Qatar Airways plans to launch service from its hub in Doha (DOH) to two new destinations in the Republic of Iraq this summer, increasing the number of cities in Iraq served by the airline to five. The carrier will offer flights to the port city of Basra (BSR) in southern Iraq and Sulaymaniyah (ISU) in the northern part of Iraq. Flights to Basra will begin June 3 and to Sulaymaniyah Aug. 20. Qatar will operate non-stop service to both destinations four times per week with Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring 144 seats in a two-class configuration. “After years of restricted air access for foreign airlines in many parts of Iraq, Qatar Airways has been working with the authorities to open up services and are delighted to have expanded our operations there in such a short space of time, doing our bit in the country’s rebuilding efforts,” said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways chief executive officer. Qatar currently serves 125 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas.
