Qantas is expanding its presence in Japan with the launch of new direct flights between Melbourne (MLB) and Tokyo (NRT). The new daily service will bring the number of weekly seats on its Japanese routes to 6,000.
Gareth Evans, international CEO, Qantas, told Travel Daily Media, “The clear message from our Japanese customers was that they wanted a direct link into Melbourne, so we’re delighted to be opening up that gateway for them today.”
This launch follows the new Sydney (SYD)–Tokyo (HND) and Brisbane (BNE) –Tokyo Narita International Airport routes launched in 2015. Tokyo is the eighth international destination served by Qantas out of the Victorian capital. Flights to Christchurch (CHC) began Dec. 4, and the airline confirmed that Melbourne–Los Angeles (LAX) would be the launch route for its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in 2017.
The new service will be offered on Qantas’ two-class Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
