Putt Away in Poland

While Poland has no shortage of beautiful landscapes, history, culture and romantic castles, it’s also the ideal destination for an active golf getaway. Golfers should ensure these locations are on their radar:

  • With a seaside location on Wolin Island, the Amber Baltic Golf Club is about 56 miles from Szczecin, just beyond the Wolin National Park. Water in the form of natural ponds is a feature on the gentle, hilly 18-hole, par-72 championship Amber course. There’s also a nine-hole, par-28 course for novice golfers; a driving range; putting green; and areas for chipping and pitching. Amenities include a clubhouse with locker rooms and a restaurant.
  • Positioned within the Szczecin Landscape Park about a dozen miles from the city center, the Binowo Park Golf Club is another hilly option with ponds housing an 18-hole championship course, plus a nine-hole course more suited to beginners. Along with a driving range, there’s also a mini golf course and a playground for children. The clubhouse has a restaurant and bar, plus a clubroom, locker rooms and sauna facilities.
  • Also about 12 miles from the center of Szczecin, the Kolbaskowo Golf Club is in the process of expanding its facilities to include a par-72 course on gently rolling land, 7,107 yards from the championship tees. Meanwhile, visitors can enjoy a 16-bay, covered driving range; putting green; and training area featuring a Blaster II golf simulator. Also on the grounds are a golf shop, mini-golf and a tourist center.
  • In northwestern Poland in the West Pomerania region, Modry Las — ranked in the Top 100 European Golf Courses — has an 18-hole, par-72, 7,272-yard championship course. The first Gary Player-designed course in central Eastern Europe, the 321-acre countryside space is spread across rolling hills, wildflower meadows and through birch and pine forest. The course overlooks two spring-fed lakes, with facilities including a driving range, practice area and clubhouse.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
