Pittsburgh International Airport, with the TSA’s blessing, announced its status as the first airport in the country to allow non-travelers access to areas beyond the security checkpoint, no ticket required. The program is possible through the new myPITpass initiative, which gives airport-goers access to terminals for shopping and dining at nearly any time. The change went into effect earlier this week.

MyPITpass holders must follow the same security procedure as any airline passenger. Additionally, they are required to enter through the third-floor ticketing level, check-in, show a valid photo ID and obtain a stamped myPITpass before passing through security. The airport stresses travelers receive priority in security lines over the general public. The myPITpass is valid only for the day it’s issued, and passes are available Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

“Since I started here, people have been asking about shopping and dining at the airport. We have worked closely with the TSA on this program. This program builds on our successful Holiday Open House program and Airside access for guests of the airport Hyatt hotel,” said Christina Cassotis, CEO, Allegheny County Airport Authority.

“The Transportation Security Administration is pleased to support Pittsburgh International Airport on the launch of their myPITpass program. Participants should be prepared to receive the same level of security screening as travelers and should ensure they’re not carrying any prohibited items such as weapons before coming through the security checkpoint. We look forward to working with the airport on this program,” added Karen Keys-Turner, federal security director for PIT, TSA.
