Breathing in salt-infused air has been the treatment of choice for centuries throughout Europe. Salt inhalation rooms are even popping up in high-tech modern spas, but they’ve got nothing on the Palacio de Sal Hotel & Spa in Uyuni, Bolivia. This small, 16-room hotel was constructed with over one million blocks of salt fused together with salt water. The salty tale doesn’t stop there — furnishings, including the beds and chairs, are also made of salt. All rooms are en suite, and each includes its own private solarium. A dining room, bar, dry sauna and an array of salt sculptures round out the property, which is fully heated and air-conditioned.

The hotel is positioned on the easternmost shore of the world’s most expansive salt flat, the Great Salar de Uyuni near the port of Colchani. From May to November, guests can take advantage of the hotel’s golf course. The unique, nine-hole course was designed by Christian Pensu and constructed on the hard surface of salt crust.
