Omni Hotels & Resorts takes the reins as the long-term operator of Toronto’s King Edward Hotel. Effective Aug. 1, the landmark property will be flagged The Omni King Edward Hotel.

Built in 1903, the hotel is located in the city’s Financial District. As part of the partnership, the hotel is undergoing a $40 million renovation to restore it to its stature as one of North America’s first “palace” hotels. The renovation, focused on adding modern comforts while maintaining the hotel’s original charm and elegance, includes all new guestrooms, modernized bathrooms, a new fitness center and updated meeting spaces.

Most notably, the hotel’s iconic rooftop Crystal Ballroom will be restored to its original grandeur as a spectacular party hall.  Located on the 17th floor, with 20-foot ceilings, the ballroom — closed since the 1970s — overlooks the city with views of the skyline in all four directions.

“The King Edward Hotel is a very unique property with a rich history from more than a century of hosting guests, as well as being a great source of pride for the city of Toronto,” said Mike Deitemeyer, president, Omni Hotels & Resorts. “Omni is committed to making this incredible hotel the place to stay in Toronto, whether traveling for business or leisure.”

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.

The Art of Balance in Seoul: Beyond the Boardroom

The value of a destination is no longer defined solely by infrastructure, efficiency or scale. Increasingly, it is measured by a city’s ability to balance productivity with well-being — creating opportunities for focus, restoration and more meaningful connections.
